Formulasi Edible Film Minyak Cengkeh (Syzygium aromaticum) dan Uji Aktivitas Antibakteri terhadap Streptococcus mutans

Clove oil contains eugenol as an antibacterial. Products containing clove oil have been widely used as toothpaste and mouthwash. Clove oil was formulated in the form of edible film because it is practice, easy in use, and could be used without water like another oral hygiene preparations. Edible film is a thin layer film made of consumable materials used as a carrier for antibacterial compounds. Clove oil edible film was formulated with 1%, 1.5% and 2% concentrations of clove oil and determined for its antimicrobial activity against Steptococcus mutans. Clove oil edible film preparations was evaluated under its physical properties including, brittleness, drying shrinkage, pH, thickness, and its expansion ability. Clove oil edible film antibacterial activities testing was carried out using the blood agar diffusion method against Streptococcus mutans. The results of clove oil edible film physical evaluation showed almost the same physical properties as the comparison (GF). Clove oil edible film test results showed the greatest inhibition on of F1 of 18.6 mm ± 0.577, F2 of 22.3 mm ± 2.081 and F3 of 25.3 mm ± 1.527. According to David and Stout, the inhibition activities of bacteria in F3 was categorized as very strong group inhibition response. ANOVA test analysis results showed that the concentration of clove oil affected the inhibition of the Streptococcus mutans bacteria with a significance value of 0,000 (p <0.05). Duncan's test showed that each concentration of clove oil has a significant difference in the inhibition of Sterptococcus mutans bacteria.
